Walking Trails

Canal Feeder Canalway Trail

The parking area for the Canalway trail is located on the south-side of Powell Road, just east of Hoffman Road. Take the south-side canal trail from the parking area. This path leads to a long, steep spillway. Across Powell Road the north-side canal trail leads north-east toward NY Route 12.

Fernwood Trail

This trail is located off Trenton Falls- Prospect Road just south of Prospect Village. The trail is located on property occupied by the Mohawk Valley Water Authority. The wooded trail provides access to an unusual concentration and variety of woodland ferns.

Trenton Greenbelt

This 2.1-mile loop trail is located on Wood Road in Barneveld, New York. The hike is generally considered an easy route and takes an average of 47 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking and walking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open most of the year and is beautiful to visit anytime.

While the Town of Trenton maintains these trails, the land is privately owned, and the trails are closed during Hunting Season.

Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

Trail closings and openings for Hunting Season will be posted on our Facebook page and website.

Trenton Falls Scenic Trails

These trails lie just east of Rt. 12 at the north end of the hamlet of Trenton Falls on the west side of the historic West Canada Creek gorge. The property is owned by Brookfield Energy and the location of Brookfield’s hydroelectric power generation facilities. The trails were opened for limited public access in 2004 and contain scenic trails, historical sites, exceptional waterfall overlooks and a picnic grove.

The trails are opened to the public on two selected weekends each year. The gorge trail opening schedules are posted on the Town of Trenton website and Facebook page.

This trail provides a connection from the Town of Trenton Municipal Center near NYS Route 12 to Barneveld Village. The Vallonia Bridge was dedicated in 2002 and crosses Cincinnati Creek at its confluence with Steuben Creek.
